Happy World Students’ Day: How Schools Can Nurture Curiosity, Confidence and Creativity

Geetanjali Group of Schools students learning and celebrating World Students’ Day in Hyderabad

Every year on 15 October, we mark World Students’ Day in memory of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who spent his life believing that a classroom can change a country. It is a day to celebrate our students, and also a day for schools to ask themselves a tough question: are we helping children grow into curious, confident and creative people, or only into good test-takers?

At the Geetanjali Group of Schools Hyderabad, we have spent over two decades working on that question. Here is what we have learned.

Curiosity: Where Real Learning Starts

Think about a four-year-old. They ask “why” about everything: why the sky is blue, why ants walk in a line, why the moon follows the car. Curiosity is natural. What often happens is that, over the years, children learn that asking questions is less rewarding than giving the right answer.

Schools can reverse that. Here is how we try to do it:

  • Welcome the odd question. A classroom where “I don’t know, let’s find out” is an acceptable teacher response is a classroom where children keep wondering.
  • Make learning hands-on. Experiments, models, field trips and projects turn abstract topics into things a child can touch and test.
  • Build strong foundations early. For families looking for an Olympiad school in Hyderabad for JEE and NEET foundation, the real secret is not early pressure. It is helping children enjoy maths and science so that problem solving becomes a habit long before competitive exams arrive.

Confidence: The Quiet Skill Behind Every Success

Confidence does not mean being loud. It means a child believes they can try, stumble and try again.

We see confidence grow in small moments: a Grade 1 student reading aloud for the first time, a Grade 6 student presenting a project, a Grade 9 student leading a debate team. None of these moments appear on a report card, but each one builds the courage children need later.

What helps most:

  1. Praise effort, not just results. “You worked hard on this” teaches a child more than “You are so smart.”
  2. Give every child a stage. Assemblies, clubs, sports, cultural events and leadership roles let different kinds of students shine.
  3. Treat mistakes as a normal part of learning. When a child is not afraid of being wrong, they become braver thinkers.

Creativity: Preparing Children for a World We Cannot Predict

Many of the jobs today’s students will do have not been invented yet. What will help them is not memorized facts, but the ability to think differently, connect ideas and create something new.

Creativity is not only art and music, although those matter deeply. It is also the student who finds a smarter way to solve a maths problem, designs a better science model, or writes a story that surprises the teacher. Schools can nurture this by giving children open-ended tasks, time to explore, and freedom to express ideas in their own way.

What Parents Can Do at Home

Schools do their part, but the home matters just as much. Here are a few simple habits that make a real difference:

  • Ask “What questions did you ask today?” instead of “What marks did you get?”
  • Let your child solve small problems on their own before stepping in.
  • Read together, build things together, and talk about the world around you.
  • Celebrate effort and improvement, however small.

A Geetanjali Campus Close to Your Home

Choosing a school should not mean losing hours of your day to traffic. That is why our campuses are spread across Hyderabad, so most families can find one nearby.

If you are searching for the best CBSE school in Kukatpally or the best CBSE school in Bachupally, our Olympiad schools offer a strong CBSE foundation. Families looking for a CBSE school near Pragathi Nagar and Puppalaguda, a CBSE school near Madinaguda and Kondapur, or a CBSE school in S.R. Nagar and West Marredpally will find a campus within comfortable reach.

For parents who want an international curriculum, we also welcome you to explore our Cambridge school in Kompally and Bowrampet. And if you are comparing options and wondering about a CBSE and Cambridge school in Hyderabad under one group, our team will happily explain the differences and help you choose what suits your child.

Across our campuses, admissions are open for 2027-28 in Hyderabad from Nursery to Grade 10.
